LAXUS House / APOLLO Architects & Associates

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood not far from downtown, this striking house on a corner lot is comprised of two stacked cubes made of contrasting materials: exposed concrete on the bottom and composite lumber on top. The wood-frame second-floor volume juts out 2.7 m over the parking area adjacent to the entrance in a dynamic columnless design. To ensure privacy in the first-floor master bedroom and children’s bedroom, the building is enclosed by a high concrete wall imprinted with the Japanese cedar formwork used to make it, which blocks views of the interior from the street.

Refurbishment of a Holiday Residence / Raffaele Cammarata architetto

Overlooking the Lugano Lake, between the woods and the hill at its shoulders, we were called to transform an existing building, one constructed in the 50s. On the somewhat compact property you can see two spaces built at opposite ends - holiday home on one side, and a dock with a garage on the other, alongside two large trees. The concept is simple, a series of spaces optimised for a brief break, a moment of respite, similar to an experience in a private hotel stay.

E8 House / Meir Lobaton Corona + Rafael Ortiz Cervantes

The spatial and volumetric complexity of the project aren’t the result of a formal strategy, but instead of the materialization of the clients’ programmatic guidelines and constraints: four families with different requirements and sometimes contradictory demands. The resulting spaces and volumes, thus radiate the sensation of being a naturally grown body rooted in the ground, rather than an imposed construction controlled by the architects´ will.
