DRN Residence / Pitta Arquitetura

Amidst the lush vegetation of Ubatuba, São Paulo, the DRN Residence, designed by Pitta Arquitetura, embodies a sophisticated blend of nature, contemporary Brazilian architecture, and sustainability. Spanning 250m² across two floors, the house was designed to offer comfort, spatial fluidity, and a full connection with its natural surroundings. "The large preserved jackfruit tree on the lot was our starting point. From it, we created an architecture that not only respects but celebrates the existing nature," emphasizes Thiago B. Pitta.

Vertime Hotel / Block Architectes

Vertime offers a multifaceted and versatile program: at once a hotel, bar, restaurant, pool, workspace, meeting place, and living space. More than a venue, it is a large villa with a warm, family-oriented spirit. The site's main constraint is also its greatest strength: located at the entrance of the city on a busy boulevard, it enjoys immediate proximity to the Olonna marina and the Vendée Globe pontoon. The challenge was to build a strong relationship with the port while shielding the project from the boulevard's nuisances. A landmark building, Vertime embodies a new and dynamic identity while remaining rooted in the history of seaside architecture.

Fisherman's House in Cadaqués / Bea Portabella + Jordi Pagès

History and architectural characterWith over a century of history, this house has witnessed the evolution of the town. In its early days, it was the home of a local fisherman —possibly linked to the historic Confraria de Pescadors de Cadaqués—, later serving as a hostel and even housing, on its upper floor, an old barracks for the Civil Guard.

World Architecture Day 2025: How We Design for Strength in an Age of Crisis

Today, on the first Monday of October, we celebrate World Architecture Day. This year, the International Union of Architects (UIA) has set the theme "Design for Strength," a powerful call to action that resonates deeply with the UN's focus on urban crisis response. In a world facing unprecedented environmental and social disruptions, this theme challenges us to move beyond temporary fixes. It asks: How can our buildings and cities not only withstand shocks but also foster equity, continuity, and resilience?
