Kivikhusen / STADSTUDIO

Nestled in the picturesque heart of Österlen, where the cultural landscape converges with the sea, lies "Kivikhusen". This development features a thoughtfully designed, small-scale community comprising 33 wooden houses, garden rooms, and interconnected street spaces that seamlessly link to Kivik's historic village core. The built environment is intricately woven with nearby vegetation and draws inspiration from the traditional Skåne style of framed courtyards. The spatial arrangement of the buildings not only creates inviting walking paths and communal gathering spots but also shapes the communal apple orchard, which serves as a centerpiece for the area. The topographical features of the landscape are accentuated by the orderly composition of the built environment and its dynamic roofscape.

Water Park Aqualagon / Ferrier Marchetti Studio

A Landmark - The direction of the winds and the path of the sun have determined the floor plan for our project. Protected from cold north-easterly winter winds, nestling up to the forest, the aquatic park opens towards the west to make the most of cool breezes in warm weather. Looking out to the south-west, the aquatic park is bathed in light throughout the year. It is oriented so as to receive as much sunlight as possible in winter, while protecting itself from excessive exposure to the sun through its terraces in summer. Like an origami sculpture, our proposal for the aquatic park resembles an unfolding landscape, culminating at around 35m: it is a built landscape, rising into the sky. The structure is visible from the surrounding area - it becomes a point of reference and a symbol of Villages Nature. This new type of landmark contrasts with the relatively flat topography. It is not an element that has been imposed on the landscape, but an extension of the landscape itself.

Permanent Public Pavilion / Besley & Spresser

Won in a national competition in 2020, the Pier Pavilion is a new permanent civic pavilion on Sydney Harbour. The building functions as a host for special events and as a place of public repose to take in harbour views and enjoy the public realm. The site forms part of a wider harbourside regeneration effort focusing on the western edge of Sydney's city centre in Barangaroo. The Pier Pavilion references land, sea, and sky through its various formal and material components.
