Como Lakehouse / Gregorio Pecorelli Studio

Gregorio Pecorelli Studio has completed the restoration of a lakeside residence on the shores of Lake Como, originally built in the early 20th century above an old dock. The project preserves the original character of the structure—including its distinctive vaulted entrance that once allowed boats direct access—while redefining the interiors through a refined, contemporary lens. At the heart of the project is the relationship with water. The lake, both physically and visually, enters the house through the original dock, filling the interiors with its shifting reflections and establishing a strong, sensory connection between architecture and place. The renovation creates a serene and essential atmosphere, where materials, light, and structure are carefully orchestrated to offer a tranquil retreat from the noise of everyday life.

The Garden City Movement in Asia: Evolution and Modern Legacies

Ebenezer Howard's verdant visions for cities have spread eastwards, far beyond his British roots. In the 1900s, city planning welcomed the Garden City Movement as a champion of good design - a response to Western industrial urbanization. Soon, Asian cities conceived their archetypes, juggling local constraints in climate and density. Designs and development, from colonial-era experiments to contemporary mega-projects, have embraced and reinvented Howard's vision well into the 21st century.

Banyan Tree and Angsana Suzhou Shishan / GOA (Group of Architects)

As a Suzhou proverb goes, "The Shishan (Lion) Mountain gazes back at Huqiu (Tiger) Hill," where its towering grandeur looks eastward toward the five peaks crowned by Huqiu Hill and the ancient city beyond. Urban expansion has encased this area within the downtown while preserving a piece of landscape within Shsihan Park. Surrounding this park, landmark buildings rise in harmony with nature. Nestled at the southern foot of the hill, the project stands bordered by the canal to the south and backed by mountains to the north.
