Rosebrook Lodge / Bull Stockwell Allen

Bretton Woods' 17,000 square foot Rosebrook Lodge perches on a mountainside overlooking New Hampshire's celebrated Presidential Range, a series of White Mountain peaks including the State's iconic 6,288-foot-high Mt. Washington. Completed in July 2020, the building's blade-like form was informed by four constraints: the site's rugged topography, a U.S. Forest Service boundary, existing skier traffic, and a new top-of-the-mountain gondola that was also a part of the project.

Fienile N Barn Restoration / Fontego Architettura

The restoration of a barn (fienile), part of a larger rural complex, becomes an opportunity for Fōntego Architettura to reinterpret the building's simplicity and purity. In the newly designed home, the living area stands out for its generous volume, evoking the barn's original agricultural atmosphere. At its heart is a striking centerpiece—an architectural element that seamlessly integrates multiple functions into a single design feature.

Traditional building development follows a risky model - design, build at full scale, and hope everything works as planned. Sustainable housing prototypes flip this script by creating functioning micro-versions of larger visions. This methodical approach allows designers to experiment with new materials, technologies, and systems without the enormous financial and environmental risks associated with full-scale development. Sustainable building prototypes serve as compact laboratories where theories can be tested before wider implementation.

XAMK Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences / Architects NRT + AOR Architects

General Information About the Project -South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) sought new premises for its Kotka campus closer to the city center of Kotka. The goal was to provide students with a more accessible location while also creating an architecturally striking building that would serve as a magnet for the entire city. The new building was designed for Kotka's Kantasatama port, where the Maritime Centre Vellamo had long been the sole public building. Simultaneously with Xamk's new facility, the adjacent Event Centre Satama (designed by ALA Architects, 2023) was constructed to host large-scale events and provide them with catering services. Xamk's building was designed to work in synergy with the Event Centre Satama, allowing both buildings to benefit from each other's functions and share several spaces.
