Quzhou Sports Park / MAD Architects

MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, has completed Quzhou Stadium, the centerpiece of a complex spanning almost 700,000 square meters that will be known as Quzhou Sports Park in Zhejiang Province. Quzhou is a historic city 400 kilometers southwest of Shanghai and surrounded by dense forests to the east and west, its sinuous exterior profile reflects the mountain ridge within a distant view of the site while its landscape evokes those of planets imagined by visionary science fiction authors.

Jin House / Narrative Architects

The house’s site is located as a two-story gable concrete mass in the landscape of suburban dwellings used as a cornfield. The design concept of the house is to make the space experience free without being rigid through the transition of void space and gaze that occur through movements such as fish swimming. The composition of the mass connected to the unfinished concrete surface emphasizes the weight and materiality firmly fixed from the ground, but the space's twisting and the mass's removal considering the surrounding landscape and the sun's direction reveal the firmness and dynamics of the space.

Soft Serve House / YSG.STUDIO

Concept - Preserving its historical essence as a purpose-built late 19th- century Victorian Georgian corner shop (The Balmain Supply Store), the three-storey sandstone family abode was revived with an adroit telescoping of eras and artistic influences. Furnishings and fixtures subtly reference Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s delicate Art Nouveau flourishes and the quiet restraint of timber framing devices prevalent in traditional Japanese interiors. Within, bold hues and textures harmoniously mingle with whisper-soft sensuality.
