HARMAY ARANYA Store / AIM Architecture

This site, on the ground floor of a newly built “traditional” apartment block, is not facing the usually busy street front but is set back on a deep in-active public plaza. Designing a store is one thing, but how to get people to notice it in the first place? Unable to touch the facade, the idea to activate the plaza seemed a natural move. It meant shifting our Focus on the journey, the experience of the public outside the store.

12 Olive Trees House / Elias Khuri Architects

The Palestinian villages destroyed in 1948 constituted the first architectural view, so to speak. They illustrate what can be termed the “Incomplete Scenes”: shards of walls, remnants of the floor, scattered piles of stones, or an open arc looking into the horizon. It is within this architectural view that the “Informal Architecture” are located; they are made up of unfinished, often un-plastered, bricks; they are under ongoing construction, enmeshed in a process of informal growth and transformation. The house exists in this fragmented context, and definitely belongs to the fragments of the current architectural view, and their planning sought to provide a solution for local architecture, while also suggesting new interpretations of the Palestinian house.

Masjid Jami’ Al-Hurriyah / AGo Architects

Located in a dense neighborhood in front of a commuter train station, this passively designed 3 stories mosque with a school on the ground floor serves as a verandah for the surrounding community. “Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” - Frank Gehry.

Casa de Zanotta Showroom / HAS design and research

Casa de Zanotta is the first Zanotta furniture museum in China that exhibits the famous Italian furniture brand Zanotta. Since it was founded by Aurelio Zanotta in 1954, Zanotta has been pursuing a unique yet luxurious and elegant design tone, and the brand is full of creativity and artistic leadership. Casa de Zanotta is located in the central area of Hefei, Anhui Province. The site is surrounded by residential and office buildings, parking lots, and vast traffic arteries. Looking back over the past 20 years, Hefei has tried to become a metropolitan city like Shanghai or Shenzhen. The high-density concrete city is based on the premise of creating a functionally oriented urban texture, but it gradually runs counter to its unique local topography and environment.
