Designing the Built Environment for Generation Alpha

Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z have long dominated the conversation around how different generations influence architecture and the built environment. From views around city planning and zoning efforts to the great debate about whether workplaces should be completely open or office-intensive, each generation has had its strong opinions about how spaces we inhabit are designed- largely shaped by the socio-economic, political, and technological influences that have shaped our lives in different ways. Looking ahead, what can we expect next? Enter Generation Alpha, the first generation born entirely within the 21st century.

Carrington Residence is a contemporary new single dwelling, designed to have an extensive lifespan. Situated within a leafy suburb on a battle-axe block the site is set back from the street, creating a private space for the inhabitants.

In the marketing field, the term/concept of ‘Universe’ is on trend. The term ‘Universe’ refers to a marketing technique by setting up a brand-new virtual world where one believes there is a certain set of elements and backgrounds unique to one brand, and through such a concept, one can connect deeply and actively with the consumer. Due to the pandemic, COVID has instigated quick evolution of the creation of concepts such as virtual reality, and metaverse in all types of brands such as F&B and Fashion. SM has been seeking to present such a concept and has launched ‘KYWANGYA’, a universe that connects with international fans and is further portraying different stories supported by SM.

The first step of designing this co-working is to divide it into smaller sections and plant functional needs into every section. Each function has its own unique characteristic, and each function is done by different divisions therefore the interior design is expected to carry different shapes and patterns. Despite the differences, a unity of design is required by combining a few concepts that are represented by basic forms and prime colors. The Flexibility of stocks graphic is the inspiration behind this design.
