Poplar Cloud House / BLDUS

Perched on a visible hilltop overlooking the Potomac River and clad in natural materials, Poplar Cloud is a public-facing ode to healthy houses fitting harmoniously into their surroundings.  Poplar Cloud sits beneath massive tulip poplar trees, with views to the historic Abner Cloud House along the edge of the Potomac.

Aureliano Coutinho Apartment / JPG ARQ

For this apartment renovation project, the architectural exercise consisted of revealing a space that already existed but was not visible. Demolishing walls, doors, and floors, therefore, means freeing up that desired space.

Le Relais Boréale Brewery / Atelier l'Abri

Le Relais Boréale is a meeting and tasting place for beer lovers located in the Mile-Ex neighborhood of Montreal. This is a homecoming for Les Brasseurs du Nord, a pioneer of microbreweries in Quebec, which brewed its first Boréale beers in the city 35 years earlier. Wishful to transpose its circular approach into the project, they brought in L’Abri’s team, based a few blocks away, to design a unique venue highlighting eco-responsibility and local know-how.

Walled Garden House / Steve Burke

The defining feature of the Walled Garden House has in fact nothing to do with the house itself but with what surrounds it. The site is populated with the ruins of multiple old stone sheds and outhouses. These ruins were retained and restored with a considerate touch to retain the history of the site and form the backdrop of the new building insertion whose purpose was to celebrate these walls.
