Nakamura House / Fausto Terán + Toro

Casa Nakamura by Japoneza Retreat is a retirement home located just two hours from Mexico City at the foot of the Atlangatepec Lagoon. RaveOn / Nick Deaver Architect

In 1956, Austin architects Fehr and Granger designed a wood and glass house to hover above the ground beneath a future cathedral of live oaks. Their design left only a minimal backyard on the steeply sloped site. The emphatic lines, limestone base and gracefully pitched roof of the 2,680 ft2 structure embodied the modern architecture of the day. Inside, a back-switching stair bisected the private and social sides of the house pinching circulation between interior spaces and restricting flow.

Urban Canyon Apartments / Common Practice + Studio AAAN

In the new urban district on Amsterdam’s Oostenburgereiland, a compact residential ensemble was realized on an exceptionally narrow plot along the blind side wall of a high parking building. Common Practice and Studio AAAN made the masterplan with 64 dwellings around a striking courtyard and designed two apartment buildings with special mid-rent housing, in which as many collective and private spaces as possible have a relationship with the serene courtyard.

TT Eatery / FREYA Architects

The starting point for creating the cafe concept was the food that would be prepared there. The client came up with the idea of junk food, fast food, and a cafe for teenagers as there are so many schools and colleges around.
