Sunday Café-Playroom / CUDO:

The concept of the Sunday café–playroom was based on the idea of creating a place that naturally integrates the needs of both adults and children. The inspiration came from the Montessori philosophyfocused on freedom, growth, and harmony, as well as the observation of urban spaces, which often artificially divide functions into "for children" and "for adults."

In the southwest of the city of Tübingen, the historic center of Derendingen is undergoing a period of transformation. Once shaped by its ribbon-like development, the area now faces a mix of renovation, repurposing, and selective densification. Within this evolving context stands a remarkable listed barn dating back to 1806, situated prominently beside the road and surrounded by the village church, an old schoolhouse, a bakehouse, and former agricultural buildings.

This home for a newly retired couple sits beside a wetland on a four-and-a-half-acre site once used as an animal sanctuary. Conceived as a serene retreat immersed in nature, it offers comfort and beauty throughout the seasons, sheltering its occupants during the cool, rainy months and opening outward during the dry, warm season.

Buildner has announced the results of its Kinderspace Edition #2 Competition and launched the third annual Kinderspace Edition #3 with an upcoming registration deadline of 26 November 2025. Following its inaugural launch, this annual international competition once again invited architects, designers, and educators to explore new possibilities for early childhood learning environments.
