Shimao Qianhai Center / Gensler

At nearly 300 meters tall, Shimao Qianhai Center in Shenzhen stands as one of Qianhai’s landmark towers and one of the world’s tallest structurally twisting buildings. The building tapers and simultaneously rotates, creating striking imagery with twisting curtain walls and structural columns. The tower sits as the tallest building within a high-density urban block surrounded by six towers. It is designed to both harmonize the cluster of buildings into a wholistic composition and stand out as an iconic structure.

The Colonnade House / Atelier Messaoudi Architects

The “colonnade house” was designed for a son wishing to offer an adapted living space to his parents previously living on the first floor of the family house, from which access to the garden was difficult for them. The project is situated in Tipasa, 50 km west of Algiers, in a dense neighborhood. The site is surrounded by family houses and is characterized by the presence of a big pecan tree. Despite the huge plot, our client's parents, one of them being a disabled person, were confined to the first floor of the familial house, and kept away from the garden, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, with limited social and familial interactions. This “colonnade house” aims at spatial fluidity, while proposing protected interior spaces and exterior areas that can be used all year long.

The Double Roof: The naturally ventilated double roof limits the rise in temperature of the particularly exposed high floors. The roof overhang also protects the facades. These are insulated from the outside by means of a cover in prefabricated panels of fiber cement detached from its case.

FCA Houses / MFOLM Arquitectos

The project is located in a suburban neighborhood in Mendoza province, Argentina. The program considers the design of two houses for two young sisters on a plot of irregular morphology. The proposals had to be harmonious with each other, as well as unique since each of them had to respond to the desires, needs, and different materialities required. A joint implementation study is carried out and basic parameters are highlighted such as orientation, use of the land, and the link or articulation between both projects.
