A Room of One’s Own Rooted in an All-Connected World

Multifarious experiences of cities are brought forward in Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx)’s impressive Film Mosaic—from life-affirming experiences of cities as potential, if not real, spaces of play, dance, social exchange and community-building, to claustrophobic experiences of trapped, suffocating life. To the authors of this short reflection essay, a series of films depicting the latter kind, have made a powerful impact. Filmmakers from countries as diverse as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Canada, Uruguay, Tunisia, United Kingdom and Spain offer artistic expressions of how persons in today’s urban life may be unable to thrive, to differentiate themselves, to find rootedness, calmness, sanity or safety.

Forgetting Time House / Wallflower Architecture + Design

There is something about a quiet day that slows down time, evokes memories of our carefree childhood, and reminds us of our past when days of timelessness existed. In today’s context, however, it is increasingly difficult to forget the notion of time. Imagine relaxing by the garden and pool, sitting under a breezy veranda whilst shaded from the warm tropical sun, teleporting back to that mythological non-time and evoking our memories of timelessness again.

The project is located in a residential area in North Casablanca on a plot of 1000 sqm. The buildable area was spanning over a rectangle of 20x15. The client who is an artist wanted to have a house with curves, sensual lines, thin yet discreet, protective without being stifling, and many other constraints that defined the house’s architectural approach.

Residence Kongkaherb / V2in Architects

This project was started according to plant expansion of the Kongkaherb that is needed to expand the size of the new home office in order to cover the increased number of staff. Also, the owner intended to build a new home for the member of the next generation. When the owner looked back at the beginning of the business, they grew up in a small commercial building that included areas of residence, warehouse, and shop front. Seeing that their first intention was a home office which not only was designed as a detached house to support future business expansion but also desired to have the same home atmosphere that they were really familiar with.
