Ideas for Mixing Materials and Cladding in the Kitchen

The transformation in the domestic spaces’ dynamics impacts the architecture inside and outside houses and apartments. Kitchens are the prime example of this transformation. Historically considered marginalized workspaces, they have gained more prominence as architectural spaces. This influences not only the size of the rooms and their organization but also the used claddings.

On the former site of the slaughterhouse and stockyard of Munich, a new urban quarter is developing, with the Volkstheater in its center. The brick façade echoes the materiality of the surrounding old buildings.

Gather House / Story Architecture

The Gather House project is a house in Trang Bom town, Dong Nai district, Vietnam. Full residents include parents and 3 children. The family is Catholic and the house is close to a catholic church. The ground floor in front is a car park with a roof made of lamellar to have ventilation and not to block the view of the interior spaces. Inside includes living room, kitchen, dining room, parents' bedroom, and office.

The site is located in a rich environment with a rural landscape. Ruins of Osawa Castle and other ruins are scattered in the surrounding area, and people with the same family name continue to live in the village. Located in a mountain valley, a waterway flows in front of the house. There is a legend that a lake spread out in this area in ancient times. It is a strange and satisfying landscape, and in this project, we imagined an architecture that would mark a new time in this place that has a history of forming satoyama while fighting and cohabiting with nature.
