Making Waves: 9 Private Poolhouse Designs

Residential swimming pools are nothing new, but they have become an unique component of modern living. Increasingly popularized, pools became a status symbol and a residential recreation element. Today, private swimming pools can be found across the world, and in many different climates. As more pools were built, so too were structures that could house equipment and pool amenities, as well as guest rooms or living quarters. These “poolhouses” were designed as spaces for accommodation, storage, and maintenance.

Doble Soga House / Architekten, Felipe Palacios + Johann Moeller

The Block Bond House explores an architecture removed from formal exercises and approaches a thoughtful solution of spatial and construction poetics. It constitutes a response that articulates the requirements of a young family, enhances the inherent relationships of the site, and reveals the tectonic material qualities into a piece of elegant contemporary simplicity with an expressive and warm character.

Baan Tita House / Yangnar Studio

Yangnar Studio is a group of skilled craftsmen and architects who design and build the work through the local methodology of architecture. With background and respect in indigenous and vernacular architecture in Northern Thailand, their Project is developed through deep consideration of place and practice that draw from traditional craftsmanship skills, local building techniques, the nature of each material, and ingenuity arising from limited resources. The essence of the work lies in the human experience through the skill of the local builder team that tries to both involve each craftsmanship that is related to the site context and always improve the development of the skill that shows up in the process with the local construction unit.
