Fortin House / Studio Odile Decq

"See everything but only be guessed". On the north coast of Brittany, the house is located at the end of a rocky point between 2 large beaches facing the ocean, with a 180° view of the sea. A ''Fortin'' was built there at the beginning of the 20th century. In order to succeed in the implantation of the house, and not to denature the site, the project melts, is posed, and underlines the landscape.

Top of Alpbachtal Viewing Tower / Snøhetta

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski resort, the ski area invested in a new chairlift, the new Hornbahn 2000, to replace an outdated ski lift and invited Snøhetta to design a viewing tower on top of the service room of the cable car to create a landmark that enhances the mountain experience for visitors. Called “Top of Alpbachtal”, the design concept for the 13-meter-high timber tower in the Tyrolean Alps references alpine building traditions.

ZIIN Beijing Store / atelier tao+c

Atelier tao+c has transformed an old textile warehouse into a showroom for ZIIN, an emerging furniture brand. The project site is part of Langyuan Station, which features warehouse with pitched roof and brick walls built in the 60s from last century. Two intersected square frameworks were erected, meticulously rotated at 45 degree, staying sole as an individual structure while also connected to the original brick wall, which forms a separate “house within a house” journey. Atelier tao+c sought to balance the relation between the existing site with new functions, exhibition and sale, background and objects in the aged industrial space.

The “casa chorizo” typology, from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, is very characteristic of Buenos Aires. It represents a challenge for the contemporary housing parameters, given its original distribution of consecutive, connected rooms, usually lacking direct sunlight and natural ventilation.
