Steki Restaurant / HRH Sheikha Shamseh Al Sharqi + Carlos Gris Studio

Steki, which means ‘hangout place for friends’ in Greek, is an intimate new restaurant located on a beach in Fujairah, looking out onto the Indian Ocean in the UAE. The interior is inspired by the natural and organic forms found in marine life and the movement of water found around coastal islands.

Hemlock House / Alexander Jermyn Architecture

Situated on a gently sloping site on the edge of a lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, this residence re-interprets the alpine house type through a distinct material strategy. The winters in this region are severe and receive some of the highest snowfalls in the continental United States, often burying homes up to the roofline. In summer, wildfires are a constant threat. In response to these constraints, the design team installed mockups over a winter season to test material resiliency.

Parking Building Uriarte 1520 / Cottet Iachetti Arquitectos

The project was resolved with a central core and a system of lateral ramps that link its 8 levels with intermediate half-level floors.

Prefabricated House Yvyra / ENNE Arquitectura

Given that the production of industrialized housing made from wood is the activity that adds the most value to the local forest industry, the business sector has tasked us with reflecting on how the offer for our region could be updated. The houses will be commercialized and located in suburban and rural areas. So for us, the reflection was on how using the resources available in the industry, we could approach a more appropriate design for our territory that responds to contemporary domestic uses. Thus, the problem is not about an essay on the image but on how the form is conceived. Understanding the latter as the way in which space is materialized, seeking to synthesize the internal and external complexities of the project, and enabling contemporary living from a sense of place.
